Man standing at form in road
The most exciting phrase in science is not "Eureka!", but "That’s funny..."

– Isaac Asimov

I saw this quote recently, and I think it applies just as much to our careers as it does to science.

We often wait for those "Eureka" moments — those big, dramatic revelations that scream: 📢 That's exactly what I need to do!

But more often, career transformation starts with a quieter observation about the unexpected:

🤔 “That’s funny…I usually love this work. Why am I feeling demotivated?”

🤔 “That’s funny…I'm dreading Mondays more than usual lately.”

🤔 “That’s funny…I felt energized after that big presentation, even though they usually stress me out.”

🧠 Curiosity isn’t just for scientists. It’s a career superpower. It opens doors and shifts perspectives. It helps us pause, ask better questions, and realign with what truly matters.

Want to practice curiosity in your career? Try this:

✅ Keep a “That’s funny...” journal. Track moments that surprise you, and look for patterns that emerge.

✅ Reflect on how those moments connect to your core values (or don't).

✅ Note the emotions and energy associated with them? Did they make you happy, excited, nervous, fearful?

✅ Shift your mindset around those moments that feel uncomfortable. Often, they're not warning signs...they're growth signals. That nervous energy isn't something to fear...it's something to harness, to drive change and growth.

🔍 What’s something in your career lately that made you think, “That’s funny…”?
